"The legendary Newcastle midfield."
Newcastle United are enjoying a club record-equalling nine-match winning streak across all competitions. With Alexander Isak, one of the world’s most in-form strikers, leading their attack, the Magpies have climbed back into the Premier League’s top four for the first time since September.
Isak, who made history as the first Newcastle player to score in eight consecutive Premier League games, shone in Wednesday’s commanding win over Wolves. He netted twice—once on either side of half-time—before setting up Anthony Gordon for the team’s third goal of the night.
This latest victory moves Eddie Howe’s side three points clear of champions Manchester City and narrows the gap to nine points behind league leaders Liverpool, albeit with Newcastle having played an extra game.
Howe’s team is the league’s form side, and history suggests such gaps can be overcome. Arsenal famously erased a 13-point deficit to win the 1997-98 Premier League title, though they had a game in hand.
However, Newcastle's title hopes remain slim. With Liverpool in such strong form, a significant dip from the leaders would be required, and data analysts at Opta currently estimate the Magpies’ chances of claiming the league title at just 0.1%.
